We tend to think of
"human development"
as a change process that happens because we add things, we learn things, and that's how we grow. This is all true.
And, we also experience another kind of change process,
one of refinement,
of clarification.
Like a block of marble that is carved from the outside in,
Chiseled by God
our inner nature, our sacred template, is slowly revealed
as we are weathered
by our experiences.
As we age, the development process becomes increasingly more one of subtraction.
Our edges are less and less amorphous and soft.
We are sculpted, wizened.
